Baldr Biosystems is a medical device company founded in 2012 as a spin-off from the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR) and National University of Singapore (NUS).
Healthcare must be affordable for everyone everywhere! We are dedicated to R&D, design, and prototyping of accurate, yet cost-effective medical devices and tests for the point-of-need.

Our initial focus is on nucleic acid-based tests (NATs) utilizing the quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology - the golden standard in molecular diagnostics.
Baldr Biosystems' first product is the bCycler, a low-cost, battery-driven qPCR-thermocycler with an A5-sized footprint. The bCycler has two outstanding features: a highly-sensitive multiplex-capable optical detection system for accurate quantitative measurements and an overall power consumption of less than 12Wh, which makes it possible to run the bCycler for a full working day on a Li-ion battery pack. All the bCycler's technical features have been protected by a comprehensive IP portfolio, whereby individual patents have already been granted in selected geographies. The bCycler excels in handling very small test sample volumes, resulting in significantly lower cost/test.

Together with beta-site clinical collaborators and assay developers we are currently looking into NATs targeting medical/companion diagnostics, food authenticity, and brand security.
