The steel industry accounts for 90-95% usage of Manganese, mainly as a deoxidizing agent and de-sulfrising agent in the iron and steel making process, as well as for the manufacture of alloys. The remaining 10% to 5% of manganese is used in other industrial areas, such as the chemical industry (manufacturing of various manganese salts), light industry (for batteries, matches, Indian paint, soap, etc.), the building materials industry (glass and ceramics colorants and bleaching agent), the defense industry, the electronics industry, as well as environmental protection and animal husbandry, etc.
Manganese products include metallurgical manganese ore, manganese carbonate powder, chemical manganese dioxide powder and battery with a manganese dioxide powder. The manganese products catering to the metallurgy sector, light industry sector and the chemical sector are of different quality / grade.
Rainbow Minerals main supply of manganese ore is from South Africa, which is of high percentage manganese & iron content and low percentage of phosphorus & low sulfur . The CIF price of manganese ore with similar grade to China's major ports ranges from United States of 5 dollars to $ 10 per DMTUMN. Even in weak economic condition, the price level at US$4.80 per DMTUMN is still profitable. The company has been actively committed in the expansion of the mine construction and at the fiscal year ended 2010-2011, the companys turnover was at US$ 14 million dollars.
Taking into consideration the long voyage from South Africa to China, Rainbow Minerals through PMG has been working vigorously in South Africa to develop the road, rail, container and bulk ship, a multi-channel mode of transport system. Through PMG, Rainbow Minerals has been allocated a stockyard for storage of the manganese ore at Durban port to facilitate competitiveness in trade & response to international ore price changes.
Rainbow Minerals through PMG has negotiated with the South African Railway Bureau, Transnet, for more capacity to utilize the railway in transportation of goods to the port reducing the dependency on inland road transport to more usage of rail-based, thus saving up to 30% of inland freight.
The existing Bishop mine has a monthly production capacity of 30,000 tons. Concurrently the construction of another mine, namely Paling, is in progress. Upon completion, the company is targeting to achieve a combined production of 10 million per month in the near future.
While focusing on the production of high-grade manganese, the company is also planning to enhance the profitability of low-grade manganese ore through blast furnace processing to produce ?iron phosphorus manganese-rich slag? at its smelter plants located in South African port and industrial zones, thus attaining a greater value in return.
Rainbow Minerals is embarking on a strategy towards the expansion on the range products and industrial growth. As such the international operations and mineral resources are key roles in fulfilling the social obligations, thus adhering to the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, a establish a "people-oriented industry, creating wealth, enhancing quality of life!
