Sales de Jujuy was founded in 2010 as the local operating company of the Olaroz joint venture project between industrial minerals company Orocobre Limited, Japanese trading company Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) and the Argentinian provincial government Jujuy Energia y Mineria Sociedad del Estado (JEMSE).

Production of primary lithium carbonate has commenced at the 17,500 metric tonne battery-grade lithium carbonate plant, located at Olaroz, in the Puna region of northern Argentina. Sales de Jujuy is on its way to becoming a substantial supplier of high quality lithium carbonate to the global market as production ramps up to full volumes over the coming 12 months. The success of Sales de Jujuys Olaroz lithium project is largely credited to operating on the principles of sustainability and the implementation of a shared value policy.
