The LNG Terminal is therefore critical to Singapores energy security, as it allows the country to import natural gas from just about anywhere in the world.
LNG is currently the most practical option for Singapore in terms of balancing between security of supply, cost effectiveness and environmental friendliness
LNG has the potential to become a major economic driver for Singapore. Leveraging on its strategic geographic location and excellent economic infrastructure, Singapore can become a major player by facilitating global LNG flow and establishing itself as a LNG Trading Hub for the region.
Town gas, which is used for cooking and water heating by residential and commercial customers, is manufactured from natural gas. The town gas pipeline network serves about 50% of the households in Singapore.
Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) was incorporated in June 2009 to develop, build, own and operate Singapores first LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Terminal on Jurong Island. This is a key national infrastructure that supports Singapore's energy diversification strategy and future economic development in the energy sector.
The Terminal began commercial operations on 7 May 2013, and currently operates with three storage tanks, two jetties and a throughput capacity of 6 Mtpa. Further expansion of the Terminal is in progress and will see the addition of a fourth tank and facilities to increase the throughput capacity to about 11 Mtpa when completed.
SLNG's core businesses include throughput, vessel cool-down and storage & reload services.
Our Vision
SLNG's Vision is to be a World-Class Terminal Operator enabling the growth of the Energy Market and LNG Hub in Singapore.
